Look and feel feedback please!

At the beginning of June we have our graphic designer coming in to work on the Cloudworks site and get it ready for the release of the open source in August.

We would really value your feedback at this time on the look and feel of Cloudworks before he comes. What do you like? What would you like changing or improving?

Please leave any comments here - thank you!

Yes any comments welcome please! We are lucky that we have an excellent designer but clearly the more feedback from you on what you like and don't like the better we can use his time. One of the issues for me is does the two-column layout of the dsicussion alongside the links + refeerences work?

Quite agree about the two column layout. If the discussion is long there could be an option to view across the page. Designer may agree to this, but do you also have friendly coders?

It's worth saying that we are not planning to make any drastic changes to the general look and feel.

Our main focus is going to be the home page (which we want to make some changes to - we plan to remove the site cloudstream and replace with it recommendations based on items that have been favourited on the site) and also the cloud page, the layout of which, as Grainne says, isn't quite working at the moment. However, the cloud page is also tricky because the number of comments, links etc. varies enormously from cloud to cloud so we've got to find something that works with that whole range. I think there are possibilities for how we might do that, but as always with this sort of thing, the devil is in the detail.

We'll also be using it as opportunity to polish up some parts of the site that need a little bit of extra love and care.

Yes just to add to Juliette's point - it is more about tidying things up than radical change. Plus the fact we want to make more of the new features such as favouriting which are not mega prominent at the moment.

Hi Will one of the options we thought of was tabbing so that you can tab betwen the discussion and links/references.

I think that one of the best things you can do is provide buttons for each cloud that let people instantly post to Twitter and Facebook.

When there are few comments the links area overlaps the Comment writing box hiding some of what one is writing.

It would be nice to have a delete button for when something is entered by mistake. I managed to double post by clicking the "Post comment" button twice when the site seemed slow to respond, not something I would expect to happen. I do like the site and think it is going to be very useful.
