'e-portfolio' and assessment of learning objects course
One of the challenges for a course constructed of learning objects (as H806 was) is that the students may all have studied different things. How to assess this sort of variety? In H806 an approach was used that asked for a portfolio of evidence drawn from across the course to be used - eight elements within a range of possible elements. These were a portfolio which backed up a commentary which the students perpared. In cut down form this is perhaps close to the PhD by Portfiolio approach, but obviously cut down. It proved very successful with students although clear guidance needs to be given on the marking approach as tutors could find themselves overwhelmed with variety.
