Project-like assessments encourage deep learning
If you want your assessment to reward deep learning (personal construction of meaning, flexible understanding, transformation of current conceptions etc) rather than surface learning, then you should be thinking of project-like assessment, according to Sonia Bartoluzzi and Peter Goodyear.
“Instead of the assessment being a test of how well the materials have been memorised, the materials become a resource for the assessment project.”
