Many online collaborative learning activities involve students (1) discussing their working processes, (2) sharing resources, and (3) evolving a joint product. But as Sonia Bartoluzzi and Peter Goodyear observe, a discussion forum is good for the first, a document repository is good for the second, and a wiki is good for the third – but none of them are good for all three. You need to make sure that the tools you provide are adequate to the task. Follow the link for the full discussion in the TELL Pattern Book, p. 29.
