SD: when we talk about open education, we need to have a more nuanced definition of what open education and open learning actually is. DW believes that there is an inverse relationship between s/o's knowledge base and their need to have structure for a particular learning purpose. It's a matter of flexibility in choice in supporting both structure and guided expert and indvidiual, self-directed learning...it's a matter of contextual learning and knowledge building communites?
in the second part of the debate (education versus learning) SD and DW discuss whether open courseware destroys the community element, the turmoil of collaboration and networking that goes into the design of learning resouces...the tensions between learning and marketing styles, is prevalent there.
