BETT is the biggest show at Olympia by far. Long gone are the days of any computer show to compare. The biggest range of netbooks on any site ever.
Apple may not turn up but try Studywiz
Open Source coders are hiding on the balcony in the smaller hall.

News includes suggestion that Google / Youtube will be part of the Playful Learning space, main hall somewhere in the middle. Hope to update on this Wednesday but depends on snow.

I added a link to my learn9 blog, raising some issues that may come up during BETT and also a bit of a rave about "research" universities and claims about funding.

Have added link to blog where the case for Open source seems quite strong.
BETT continues as a trade show. Moodle compares ok, my guess.

I have done a BLOG for the Winterlude 2011 / 2012
http://will789gb.posterous.com/winterlude-3-lt12uk-bettshow-onlineinfoexpo-c
BETT will be central, genuine trade presentation of devices from laptops to phones. And there may be a complete lack of UK government policy. Should mobiles be confiscated? This is a real question apparently.

I have posted another blog

the Winterlude is definitely outside of time now. BETT Radio is current in November.

The 2013 BETT has an expanded scope to include adults and HE.
Speakers include Niall Sclater Director of Learning and Teaching,The Open University

Topics may include whether a MOOC is mostly disruptive for a traditional open university.

I have added FutureLearn to the Winterlude cloudscape. Usually the Winterlude is really quiet over the actual holiday, just waking up again in time for BETT. This year the mysterious announcement of FutureLearn has stirred things up a bit. There will at least be more speculation in time for BETT even if few details are available.

I have added a report on speech by Vince Cable. As far as I can discover, only the computer press has reported this. Michael Gove did not turn up this year. I think BETT is news enough for the general press so I don't understand the lack of reporting. The educational press should have some interest, there were lots of people attending.

Thinking about BETT from last year I cannot find LSIS, the Learning and Skills Improvement Service. They were there last year and won a prize for a management software. Still, BECTA also support eCPD so maybe they know what is going on.
LSIS is interesting as a connection of Leadership and Quality. Previously I think research on this has often been seperated.
Learning and Skills is about adults, I assume. BETT is maybe about schools but I think the learning theories may not fit into age categories very well. any ideas about this. How young is ready for learner at the center?
Lancaster research on Leadership had a strong emphasis on conditions for dialogue. Has social networking made this easier?
More next week
