This is a great topic for a cloud; I think trying to tackle this is one of the key challenges we face with using new technologes. If you look at the affordances of technologies they seem to line up really well with what we know is promoted as good pedagogy and yet in reality there is little evidence of really good use of technologies. I talked about aspects of this in a recent kyenote I did, a cloud for this includes the presentation and a paper..

Thanks Gráinne, I have been looking at learning designs that might create an effective online community for children.  You would know about the excellent resouces created by 'Learning designs' project. Although these resources have a generic focus, do you know of any simular resources that are designed for use by children?  All the best and thanks, Richard

Hi yes I know the Learning Design work and the people involved - great stuff as you say. You might be interested in a workshop I was involved with with Sue Bennett and Shirley Agostinhi from that team at ASCILITE 2009 - where they talked about recent work they have been doing.

I don't know of any work being done directly with children, but one thing I know from our work is that these visual designs are often most useful when they are co-created. A static deisgn can be hard to interpret by someone not involved in producing it.
