Interactive Screen Experiments (ISE) are a computer based resource we are developing for teaching practical science. They usually consist of animated, photographic images which are designed to simulate as closely as possible a real piece of experimental apparatus.

Could such simulations be incorparated into an application such as Microsoft/Dorling Kindersly Musical Instruments to simulate the effect of playing instruments.

Clearly it is a question of how far we could push our techniques, what are the benefits, and where are the limits to what it is worth doing.
