TCM Feedback: Mobile Connections: Joining up OU provision for Mobile Learners
Abstract: As a result of the work done by the Roadmap Acceleration Programme (RAP), mobile-optimised learning systems have been enhanced for our students who are learning on-the-move or away from a typical study environment. In particular, the Mobile VLE delivered through Moodle has extended the work initiated in the previous beta version on v1.9.x of Moodle (or OU VLE1) to include new improved layout and navigation for students not only to read and catch up with their studies, but also contribute back to their peers on OU VLE2 (Moodle v2.x).
The Mobile VLE can be seen as a student entitlement, that is available to all with little input initially required by curriculum teams. In order to maximise the potential of these and other mobile tools, this session will offer an opportunity to discuss what could be customised further through resources and activities, what usage there has been and also how best to coordinate activities for the future.

One thing I should have drawn out further in presentation was that we're now very close to the point when a number of building blocks are in place to support mobile learners. As such in the near future the conversation will move on to the curriculum specific mobile learning enhancements, activities and resources that can/should be added as appropriate to the mix. Thus building on the commonly available student entitlement to a mobile learning and teaching platform.
I hope very soon to have more contextualised data about how many students are using mobile devices in the different programmes and subjects which should assist in those conversations.
In parallel, there will be more discussion and planning as to what further staff development/briefings/awareness-raising is needed to mainstream the mobile provision, in conjunction with IET
