Abstract: Children who are active on the internet are playing, socialising, consuming media -- but they're also learning critical and technical skills without realising it. They 'unwittingly' perform some significant design and programming activity, in the course of hacking little animations, game scripts and so on. They 'unwittingly' engage in sensemaking and critical discourse without realising it, in the course of playing informal internet games. This talk will present some observations of 'intelligent internet play' by a small group of teenagers and consider the implications for education in general and end-user programming in particular.

Useful presentation that got me thinking about tinkering vs. playing vs. learning. We must get hold of some of the TU100 sensor boards and Raspberry Pi boards and explore their possibilities...
