Barry Sponder - Some thoughts about culture creativity and education

Culture is like air - never thought about my culture of growing up in New Year till went elsewhere

We are all multicultural in various contexts, there are also sub-cultures we engage with

We can acquire new cultures and lose old ones

We cannot not exhibit our culture(s)

Creativity in multi-level

It is not the same as doing something creatively

It can be taught through modeling

America was created from many elements

Creativity and freedom go hand in hand

If he’s so creative why isn’t she rich?

Creativity is part of one’s individuality

School, education and creativity don’t mix

The government is very creative but also not very creative

Hard to characterise because of federalism

Schooling is not necessarily education

Everyone has public school in common

Schools teach curriculum not creativity

Creativity is more often found outside school

Schools are often used for social justice

The US excels in postsecondary education

Elearning synonymous with technology

Consumer-level technology is everywhere

In states elearning is outside school

social networking works for working people

radio as powerful as internet

radio is the internet using voice over images

nothing takes the place of a good story

USA has creativity from bottom to the top

Wish list

  1. Learning isn’t subsumed by glitz
  2. Politics won’t determine the future
  3. I hope that quality increases with quantity
  4. History is not lost to anything before
