Conole - MOOC presentation
I want to focus this week on new and emergent technologies, their affordances and their potential use to support different forms of learning.. I will argue that social and participatory media in particular offer rich ways in which learners can communicate and collaborate, but that, on the whole, these technologies are not been used extensively. I will describe a number of strategies we have developed to try and enable practitioners to make more informed design decisions which make effective use of new technologies. I will conclude by arguing that we need new metaphors to understand the ways in which users are interacting with digital technologies.
As a background to this you might like to read two chapters from my forthcoming book – one on social and participatory media and one on design representations. They are available on slideshare http://www.slideshare.net/GrainneConole/chapter-4-open-social-and-participatory-media and http://www.slideshare.net/GrainneConole/chapter-8-design-representations-11882051
