The presentation began with a short history of Blackburn in the UK, noting that the Acid House movement has many similarities with OER, offering free & independent parties.
Staff development at Blackburn College is subject to many unhelpful rules and regulations. C4E is a way for staff to develop with OER and outside official channels. It is believed to be edupunk, autodidactic and empowering.
One of the most powerful lessons is the impact that OER has on students. (Michael Sandel's (Harvard) materials on justice in this case.) Students were inspired by the fact that peers from Harvard were asking the same questions as them.
