Pedrotti SESSION NOTES: NROC technology user groups
Key issues many members face:
- Faculty adoption of NROC materials after license in place
- Development of strategic implementation plan for OER materials
- Formatting courses within various LMS’s
- Availability of more granular content (“breaking open” learning objects is often necessary)
Suggestions from group for improvement/support:
- Make materials more “editable” and encourage faculty to edit and or author materials in order to create a better sense of ownership
- Connect NROC adoption to key organizational drivers at the strategic level as well as personal (get backing of vocal/influential faculty early on)
- NROC community – Create self-help networking groups within online community specific to LMS and/or other third-party technology such as LOR
- NROC community – create member directory that can include space for detailed institution profiles (projects, successes, challenges, needs)
- Would like to have the ability to do subject-specific searches rather than just repository-wide federated searches
- More granular learning objects
- NROC community – place to share-back modified text to accompany media
- NROC community – more member-lead webinars to address/discuss specific implementation issues
- “beef up” player that works well with all LMS’s for easy content development
- NROC community – (marketing) incentives for sharing-back content into the community
- SCORM API in courses going forward
- Support for open textbooks
- NROC community – support for assessment-swap; formative assessments
- Many requests for content “ready-made” for various LMS’s (Angel, Bb, Moodle, D2L, eCollege mentioned specifically)
