Abstract:Technology enhanced learning is implemented using technologies built based on particular pedagogical and interactive assumptions. These assumptions, which constitute the opinionated pedagogy of developers, inevitably influence the ways online courses are designed and experienced. In 2014 Open Polytechnic began development of iQualify, an online education platform designed to provide an online-only, mobile-optimised learning experience. iQualify, which is being developed in accordance with a minimum viable product and agile framework, is based on a self-aware opinionated pedagogy. This lightening presentation explores the nature of opinionated pedagogy, and outlines principles for ensuring platform developers have their pedagogical assumptions informed, education-driven, and evidence-based.
