Abstract: Personal Inquiry was a 3 year project between the OU and the University of Nottingham, funded by the ESRC and EPSRC, to develop and evaluate personally engaging science learning. The project developed the nQuire toolkit to guide and support the entire inquiry learning process, starting in a classroom setting, continuing at home or outdoors, and finishing with viewing and sharing results back in the classroom.

The nQuire system is implemented under Drupal and runs on Windows, Apple, and Linux OS. Work on nQuire has continued since the end of the project, and it now consists of a web-based application with demonstrator inquiries, a downloadable version that can run on a variety of devices, and an authoring system to modify and create new inquiries. Although tested with children aged 11-14, the system is equally applicable to HE or to adult informal learning. I shall demonstrate nQuire, showing examples of the Healthy Eating and Microclimates inquiries, and how new inquiries can be authored.
