Title: DIY Mobile Apps Activity description: Mobile apps can support different types of learning activity but not many mobile apps are currently designed for higher education. Using Google Apps Inventor allows you or your students to develop home made apps. This activity will explore why you might use Google Apps Inventor and how you can use it.
If you can, please have a look at http://www.appinventor.mit.edu/ before the session. This would be helpful, but not essential. |

Title: Creating an ebook Activity description: The ebook format allows students to access and interact with multimedia learning materials in a standard book presentation. New authoring software simplifies the production of ebooks for PC, iPad, Kindle and other devices. In this session you will explore interactive OU course ebooks, and create an ebook using Apple iBooks Author (on a Mac) or Sigil (on a PC). If you can download iBooks Author (from the Mac App Store) or Sigil (http://code.google.com/p/sigil/) in advance, that would be helpful, but not essential.

Title: Mobile learning with iSpot Activity description: In this session, you’ll learn how to use mobile technologies and internet based systems such as iSpot to gather and analyse data which can also be used in collaborative and knowledge sharing activities. You will look for wildlife on campus, and you’ll use the internet on your mobile phone to find information about it, identify its characteristics and establish its scientific name. If you find something new that does not exist on iSpot, then you can upload it to iSpot as a ‘new observation’, and discuss its characteristics online in order to identify it. The outcome from this activity is a short group presentation reflecting on potential benefits of using mobile technologies and web based systems such as iSpot to support teaching and learning. |
