Discrepant events in science teaching
This is a science teaching approach I learnt when studying to be a science teacher. The teacher starts the lesson by showing an event which is surprising and puzzling and students are asked to explain why it happened that way. For example, the collapsing can: water is boiled in a can which collapses when cooled.
