Formative mini-tests in Chemistry
Students benefit from short, ongoing reinforcement of their learning and valuable regular feedback on progress. However providing this through traditional teacher-centered approaches is time consuming. Five minute mini-tests were used at the start of a formal, face to face lecture. Student then peer assessed each others tests and passed the scripts to the front. Marks counted cumulatively to 10% of the overall unit mark. Evaluation of the approach was very positive and attendance at lectures were better than in previous years.
