This is quite tough as overall I'm still a bit uncertain as to where cloudworks fits.  I initially saw it as a repository and still do to a certain extent but since its use around ALTC 2009 & the recent Twitter / blogging discussion I'm seeing it slightly differently.  My three words would be:

  • discussion
  • aggregator*
  • repository

*Possibly not the best term but I like that Cloudworks pulls together resources, discussion, references etc.

I'm a newcomer as a user (participant? cloudworker?) in Cloudworks, but I have already become addicted. I agree with your three words to idenify its activities/"can do". I see it also as:

- a news bulletin for elearning events;

- a scholars' cafè with easy access for everyone (me too!)

- a brainstorming area for specific projects;

- a personal shared notepad for your early ideas;

- an opportunity to "beta-test" your design outlines (although this is less apparent than the above features).

There signs towards an use of Cloudworks as a lab for open scholar's practices. It would be great to see initiatives to pilot open teaching too.

Antonella- a vision of open practice would be so so wonderful!!!  Very much part of our ultimate thinking.
