Synchronous audio-graphic conferencing for language practice
Students can develop conversational fluency, when face-to-face meeting is difficult, through a synchronous audio-graphic conferencing tool.
This language course has successfully run online tutorials using the Lyceum conferencing tool as an alternative to face-to-face tutorials for conversational practice.
Lyceum includes facilities for audio-conferencing as well as a shared onscreen whiteboard, and for dividing students into small groups in separate “rooms” which the tutor can “visit”.
Tutorials are prepared by the course team and therefore more closely structured than the face-to-face equivalents; the first few establish students’ ability to use the software. Tutors are given detailed instructions, including tips on how to deal with potential problems.
