Help students understand the relationships between parts of a physical system with a simulation in which they can change the parameters.

Students’ understanding of a complex physical process such as global warming can be limited if they cannot explore the relationships between different parts of the system.

This simulation allows students to interact with mathematical models of planetary physics, moving sliders to adjust half a dozen or so parameters to see how changing one or two of them affects the Earth’s temperature. It also helps students appreciate how models are used to understand reality. [Valda Stevens, Neil McBride]

One excellent site for this topic is the PhET site, http://phet.colorado.edu by the University of Colorado at Boulder. It is research based and this is explained at the site, http://phet.colorado.edu/research/index.php
