Online Information 2009

Trade show at Olympia London with conference, not obviously about learning

First week of December for three days. Keynotes on the semantic web and social networks. The presentations near the stands are free, usually linked to product, but often find the issues ahead of the main conference.

Features an XML centre, a bit techie but crucial at this time.

More later, this is just here for people to add to.

Stands include OUP and Highwire.

It is not a learning event but the learning aspect keeps cropping up.

Next year same sort of format.

One of the keynote speakers is on Twitter. Maybe they all are. Not much time for checking as the exhibition space is busy. The main conference started with the semantic web and will have another keynote on social media later today.

Meanwhile in the XML space towards the back of the hall, a rare Adobe presentation not about Flash.

Found this about Communities and Collaboration which better explains relevance for Cloudscape. Maybe not too late though the main event is over

My story for OhmyNews also reports moves by the Guardian and Haymarket to switch publishing online from print. Technology Guardian ends in 2009 as a print section. This seems to me to be an "event".

Now I have found out about embedded content I have added some YouTube. This is about publishing but could also relate to research. How are results distributed? What feedback to expect?

The dates for 2010 are 30 Nov to 2 Dec.

I don't think it is worth starting another cloud.

Themes this year include ePublishing Solutions and Social Media. I don't think there will be an explicit subject heading for learning, but things will crop up. Also there will probably not be much about mobile devices, the assumption is that the IT Department is in control.

But this is the key show for libraries and academic publishing.

I have added a link to a recent set of slides from Steve Dale, Chairman Online Information Conference 2010

This shows the sort of topic that will be covered, possibly more of an organisational context than previously.

I am not starting a new cloud for 2010. A lot of topics will be much the same.

I have added a link to my blog

Flickr from 2010, show still open tomorrow Thursday. apps world now closed but you could get in with an Online ticket and there was a possible route to Olympia 2.

Highwire most aware about apps and mobile. See video above from last year and imagine mobile change meanwhile.
