Cloudworks is no longer accepting new user registrations, and will be closing down on 24th June 2019. We hope to make a read-only archive of the site available soon after.

Welcome to the 2010 issue of Becoming a Webhead!

Becoming a Webhead 2010
TESOL CALL/IS
Jan 11 - Feb 21

In BaW10, we will explore Web 2.0 tools and share the best ways of using them in our teaching practices.

We are part of the Webheads in Action virtual Community of Practice.

Would you like to join us?

Participants will learn collaboratively and hands on to:

  • use various synchronous and asynchronous web tools for learning and teaching EFL/ESL,
  • interact through e-mail, text chat, voice chat, voice e-mail, and distribution lists, among others,
  • reflect on ways of applying those tools to their teaching, either online or face to face, and,
  • create web pages, wikis, blogs, online worksheets, surveys, interactive exercises and rubrics related to their own contexts.

Weekly chats will be held to:

  • discuss pre-defined topics,

  • build rapport and

  • create a sense of community.

Much of the content derived from the discussions will be made available through wiki pages which will be kept online for future reference.

By the end of the session participants will be invited to join the Webheads in Action (WiA) community of practice

Hi, it seems unlike Ning I don't have to register to this particular cloud to converse, my existing cloudworks password allows that.  This looks very nice and it will be interesting to follow what you do here to see how it applies to webheads projects in general.  Thanks for continually innovating!

Yes, thank you for adding this, Daf.  Wonder if we should include this in the resource area of our Social Networking portion?

I believe you could reference a picture via html embed.

I created a Cloudscape where we can link all the EVO sessions, if they develop Clouds here.

Vance--will you add a Cloud for  Multiliteracies?

Thanks for the suggestion, Elizabeth.  I added this cloud http://tinyurl.com/mlit-cloudworks to the EVO cloudstream. Cloudstreams have a nice feel to them :-)

Interesting stream going on here   !  I like Sharon's  suggestion to add cloudworks to social networking week  . It will make a valuable addition .

Daf and Sharon , I wonder how you added  pictures to the cloud  ? Did you make any changes in their  html embedding  code ?

Hi Mbarek, to embed images in the description you can use ie:

<a rel="embed" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/pagedooley/2847551225"  example photo, from Flickr</a>

Otherwise video, images, docs and slideshows etc can be embedded using Add embedded content button above (currently we support 5min, Amazon Product Images, Flickr, Google Video, Hulu, Imdb, Metacafe, Qik, Revision3, Slideshare, Twitpic, Viddler, Vimeo, Wikipedia , WordPress , YouTube)

This Cloud is looking really interesting :)

For images you should  use the image tag <img src="<insert url>" alt="put alt text here"> - you don't need to use <a ref="embed"> which will only work for flickr and cause problems if you later try to edit the content. For videos use the 'Add embedded content' as Rebecca says.

Will certainly dip in virtually! great that you have folk from all around the world. We also have good international representation in cloudworks - over 143 countries at the last count! So feeding this through cloudworks should get your work known to a broader audience.

Hi Chris,

Yes, you need to use the html code for the image - it would be better if they had a link in  the editor -maybe someday.

You will see the code mentioned above in a couple of places.
