An excellent researcher at doctoral or PhD level:
- Has basic understanding of data ownership rules as they apply to own research.
Looking ahead, a doctoral student can aim to become an excellent early-career researcher who:
- Deeper and consistent understanding of copyright, IPR, licensing; can advise peers and less experienced researchers.
- Manages the deposit of research outputs, open and wider access, and the ‘creative commons’.
Note: These skills are identified in the UK Researcher Development Framework – where they appear as C1.4 Professional Conduct: IPR and Copyright
