“Does it make a difference? The impact of repositories and OERs on teaching and learning”

A JISC funded event, in collaboration with SCORE and LORO.

 This “Impact Conference” focuses on the impact of the use of Open Educational Resources on Teaching and Learning. There will be presentations by leading experts and a series of workshops in the afternoon.

The objectives are:

  • To help projects think about how to evaluate and research the impact that the use of educational repositories and OERs has on teaching and learning;
  • To bring together different projects to discuss how this has been or is being carried out in different contexts, and to identify potential links and collaborations;
  • To focus attention on changes in practices that are speared by the use of teaching and learning repositories and OERs;
  • To produce a set of recommendations on what is required and how to go forward, and these will be captured in a short online report

 The event will take place on Wednesday 23rd March from 10:15am to 3:45pm, at the Open University headquarters in Milton Keynes.


The day will include presentations by two plenary speakers working in this area of OER evaluation:

-          David White from TALL, University of Oxford, who is heading the JISC Impact of OER project (presenting with Melissa Highton, University of Oxford and SCORE fellow), and

-          Helen Beetham, e-learning consultant, member of the JISC OER Programme Evaluation and Synthesis team and co-author of Rethinking Pedagogy for a Digital Age (Beetham and Sharpe, 2007).

In the morning, there will be an opportunity for projects to present their work on impact of OER.  Networking and exchange of information about projects, experiences and priorities will be facilitated during and after lunch. During the afternoon small group sessions will focus on specific aspects of evaluation and measurement of impact and will be led by both plenary speakers, the LORO Team and Chris Pegler, former Academic Director of SCORE and lead of the ORIOLE (Open Resources: Impact on Learners and Educators) project.
