Ed Hovy gave a v nice talk just now on the Publication of the Future. He proposes the need for templates that charatcerise the paradigmatic argumentation patterns used in different disciplines, cf. ISI's KE-f-ED patterns for causal experimental scientific experiments vs argumentative principles in the Ethics community such as the Precautionary Principle about potentially harmful risks in the absence of consensus.

Here is another example of an argumentative publication pattern (Fig 9.6 and following), proposing the pattern for a caonical HCI evaluation paper.
