This presentation about Korea's approach to supporting ODL and ICT to extend their education system. Korea has very highly ranked results for its achievements at school level. Their current initiitaves include "U-learning" and digital textbooks.
There is high penetration of PCs and high speed internet into the school system and national systems including a National Educational Information System to help link home and school through transparent information. This provides the electronic documentation for the academic record needed as learners progress through the education process.
The digital textbook programme has a target for 2015 to have pupils using an integrated textbook and contact system under a model of "Smart education" to aloow "any place to become a classroom". The investment over the next 4 years is estimated at around $2bn.
