Achieving a library search solution that works well for all users remains a difficult challenge. At present no one search tool allows a library's users to search across all the content held or subscribed to by that library. Discovery solutions such as EBSCO Discovery Solution (EDS), Summon and Primo bring us a step closer to realising that goal.
Then there are further hurdles in terms of word-sense ambiguity. What do users really mean by their search terms and how do you ensure you deliver results that are relevant to them?
On a small screen relevance ranking becomes even more important as scrolling through long lists or multiple pages of search results can seem even more daunting than it does on a desktop screen.
Which filtering and faceting options are really important/useful to mobile users?
