Katharine Reedy - My dream: digitally literate distance learning and teaching

Embedding digital and information literacy into outcomes, assessment and learning for OU qualifications

This is my Dreambazaar project proposal. It's about coming up with a design to embed digital and information literacy into degree programmes so that these skills and capabilities are fully integrated into learning, teaching and assessment.

If anyone else is interested in that, I'd like to be in your gang!

I've added a link to the OU's Digital and Information Literacy Framework in case you'd like to see what we've come up with so far. We think it could be a useful tool for learning design.

More later......

Hi Katharine
I still haven't worked out if replying direct to these emails is the best way to contact people but I'm interested in embedding digital literacies into the curriculum - for staff as well as students - I think staff are often forgotten when it comes to digital literacies - as if they should have somehow absorbed them along with everything else they do - and those who are still at the beginning of the shift to digital ways of working are increasingly invisible.
I'm in the process of setting up a cloud - hopefully - to look at DIY video/audio production - which is a part of digital literacies. The focus is staff but any resources will be equally applicable to students wanting to 'have a go' with multimedia. If you think there may be some cross overs please do get in touch. My work blog is http://suewatling.blogs.lincoln.ac.uk and my clouds are at http://cloudworks.ac.uk/user/view/4427
Regards
Sue

Hi Sue, great, I will be in touch. I agree that developing staff is really fundamental to getting good outcomes for students. Am going to take a look at your blog tomorrow (13 January) when I'll have more time.

Hi Katherine

There is now a cloudscape/posible team around digital literacy  generally but I have now added a cloud on digital identity and social media. Unless I get thrown out on my ear, I think it is OK to add to the cloudscape a little fluffy cloud on any related topic. I have simply been adding a few links in there.

Its all new to me, so I guess we just stumble along until meaning emerges!

Hi katharine,

There appear to be several projects around the theme of Digital Literacy/Literacies and your Cloudscape appears to have a lot of resources that will be useful, thank you. http://cloudworks.ac.uk/cloudscape/view/2035

Just in case you haven't seen it, Anne's cloud on an introductory unit might be of interest? http://cloudworks.ac.uk/cloud/view/7142

Best regards,

Clem

I believe that we're on the same page too. I 'm interested in embedded approaches. My interest is in literacies (digital and trad) and iteracy is always embedded in a context. The context in which the skills are required is the  best place to develop them, in my opinion.

Hi Katherine,

I noted your  Digital and information literacy framework link on Catherine El-Bez' project page and thought it would be very useful in the project that I'm proposing. I hope its OK to use it there?

Anne
