Interesting concept, Susanne. There is also the perspective of web culture, perhaps? It's slightly different in different 'real' cultures, maybe?

I'd be interested to know more about this project - would you be thinking about developing it with different routes for different levels, or single route only?

I think I saw another possbily related proposal I think to do with German culture and using webquests to explore this, might be interesting to get together. But I can't find it now arrghhh....

Hi Susanne,

Are you US based? Is this targeted at middle school, high school foreign language learners?

If you would like to do something with Arab language and culture, let me know. I am Saudi based and have been here for 20 years. I like your idea of building your course around a 12 month calendar of events -

For example:

"What's happening this week in Saudi Arabia"?

Well, it's exam week which means light morning traffic as most students are not going to school! Even KG kids are taking exams!  : (

Hi Lesley

I think for the purpose of this project, I would aim it at beginners. Therefore, most of the content would be in English. However, depending on the task and source materials, texts or websites in German can be explored, as long as participants are supported. Apart from the cultural input, I would also hope to introduce participants to a range of websites and web tools, such as voice thread for recording students greeting each other in the TL, flashcards (Quizlet, Study Stack, Anki) for vocab learning, a forum/blog for comparing German culture with own culture, interactive exercises using HotPotatoes, online dictionaries, google translate for translating websites, use of wikipedia in English and German or manypedia to understand German content etc.

Hi Joshua

Thanks for the alert, although it does sound like my proposal.... I keep getting lost in the many locations and have posted my dream in more than one space, I'm afraid!

Do you have an age group in mind Susanne? It sounds like a very interesting project.

I guess you know the webquest I have at the back of my mind - Cristina Ros i Solé and Raquel Mardomingo's 2004 paper in ReCALL, 'Trayectorias: A New Model for Online Task-Based Learning'.

Isabel Perez has also done some fascinating work on Webquests and CLIL - her website is worth a look:
