Your situation (context)

Describe the material and social characteristics of the environment in which you operate.

I work for Flinders University in the Professional Development Unit as the Training and Development Officer.  We have been delivering courses predominantly in a face-to-face way and my role has been created to move this method of training to an online environment using Moodle.

Where will your project take place?

The project will be aimed at Flinders University employees.  It will be created within the organisation’s Moodle environment

Who are the main actors involved? Include images, videos, sketches - anything that would help others understand the opportunities and constraints you are dealing with.

The main actors are:

  • Professional Development Unit – providing training to employees throughout the organisation including those located in regional South Australia, Northern Territory and Victoria who have not been able to participate in face-to-face training due to costs/times associated with travelling to the main campus,
  • Employees – who are located at the main campus and smaller satellite campuses, different expectations (main campus have had access to face-to-face training … why change to online and other campuses have not had access to training due to costs/time … why do I need to do the training),

University – want staff to be trained and productive, encouraging uptake of online courses, see online as more cost/time effective (just-in-time)

The change you would like to see (challenge)

What do you hope to achieve?

Develop an online program to assist professional staff who have responsibilities for managing meetings in an effective, timely manner

What would be different if you succeed?

This course is currently being offered in a face-to-face environment and with participants from the local campus.  By offering this course in an online environment, staff in satellite campuses will have the opportunity to complete training too.

How you might go about bringing that change

What is your pedagogical approach?

I would say this is ‘to be developed’

Which technologies will you use to implement it, and how?

Currently the University uses Moodle for online courses – however I believe there are many resources that exist that could be used to populate the content of this program … what I’m interested in is to design the learning experience so it is engaging and provides valuable skills
