Mélanie Bennett - Introduction

My name is Mélanie and I am introducing myself from Canada.  I am a member of the Ontario College of Teachers and have taught intermediate and secondary levels in Canada and in Japan.  More recently, I was a teaching assistant at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and a teacher at the School of the Public Service of Canada. 

I am concurrently working on two graduate degrees, from which I am on leave at the moment:  Master of Arts, French Literature (UBC), and Master of Education, Distance Education (Athabasca University).  I hold a Master of Public Administration, Peace Studies as well as a Bachelor of Arts (French Studies, dance) and a Bachelor of Education. 

I have known almost from the very beginning of my career that I did not enjoy the classroom and I have consequently fled the profession several times for graduate studies and other activites.  That said, I quite enjoy studying theories of learning and conceiving learning units or courses.   I love teaching for social change and I want to learn more about radical pedagogy and learning technologies.  I would like to transition to distance education.  Most of my research has been conducted from a feminist perspective.

My alternate profession is that of modern dancer.  Training in Graham technique and performing on stage are subliminal experiences.  I also love theatre for social change… and art for art’s sake, quite simply.
