This week has been really interesting.  I am working frantically on semester start-up with constant trainings and consults with faculty on how to teach and use technology to enhance their teaching, while I'm trying to reflect on what community really means and who it is that comprises our community.  How do we teach, why do we teach, do we really teach? just comes up again and again.  Who are learners are affects how we can reach them.  We can only help them build on knowledge that is related somehow to something they already know.  If we cannot make the connection, anything they do is rote and will not become part of their permanent knowledge.  They will be studying to the test, not learning the material.
