Rich virtual lectures

Media-rich records of lectures engage students more than PowerPoint bullet lists.

Putting PowerPoint presentations online for viewing after the event is limited in its effectiveness. Students may still require clarification of concepts, or complain that they just get a list of bullet points: “what’s missing here is the teacher”. This computing lecturer at Fermanagh College used Microsoft Producer to create and publish online rich-media presentations which gave the look and feel of a live event. The software enabled integration of video of the live session with supporting audio files and PowerPoint slides. These dynamic presentations could be viewed by students unable to get to the live lecture or practical session, or by other students to reinforce and review their learning. [Hector McLennan]
