In response to an invitation by Professor Colin Mason, Director of the Institute of Teaching and Learning at Deakin University the second meeting for higher education academic and educational developers is planned for the afternoon of the 10th November 2010 at Deakin University, Burwood. A light lunch and refreshments have been sponsored by the Victorian branch of HERDSA.   This event will mark the first exchange of the MEAD* baton, an event first hosted and  launched at Latrobe University last month by Professor Tom Angelo, PVC Academic and head of the CLTC.

The Latrobe team has established a wonderful benchmark, also setting up the mechanisms for us to remain connected between meetings.   This has been achieved through Cloudworks a collaborative online environment created thanks to the help of Mathew Riddle and linked here.       (More Information below)

Captured “on the clouds” are the identified interests expressed at the first meeting, and from the 6 broad themes, the most popular of these in terms of selected interests are:

1.    Programs supporting the transition to, and professionalisation of, university teaching (Foundations Programs and Graduate Certificates of HE)

2.    The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning

Other areas of interest include Flexible Learning, Professional identity formation, the student transition/internationalisation, the “ologies” i.e. "Ontology, Epistemology - and Axiology".   These could provide the focus of future meetings and remain areas for continuing discussion on Cloudworks.

The Deakin event will now focus on one theme, but we require your input to determine what that will be!   Will it be foundational studies or SOTL?

What will be our priority focus for the next event?
